Les Maillons Solidaires
reflection on emergency accommodation
Free Expression
The topic of emergency accommodation is complex, delicate and no obvious response seems to emerge facing the most precarious situations. On a daily basis, many organisations and associations are working to offer comfort and decent living conditions to as many people as possible, while public policies succeed each other in an attempt to respond to a reality in constant evolution.
…And what if, precisely, time was the key ? And if the relationship with time, more than space, was the missing link of the reasoning ?
On the one hand, temporary situations of precariousness, peaks of distress or insecurity, and on the other hand, communities ready to offer a site, access, services…for a limited period of time. The idea of “Maillons solidaires” relies on establishing contacts between these two space-times in an agile and reciprocal manner: what is more evident than an ephemeral village, with no mark or influence other than that of a solidarity season ?
Neither wild camp nor slum, the elements of the system come to life on a temporarily free and authorised area. Each settlement is the fruit of a concerted decision with the concerned local authority.
