How does one illustrate the digital shift to the greater number of people? How does one familiarise the general public with 3D printing? How does one get a glimpse of the potential?

With a behavioural and societal eye on these issues, it appeared to us that combining the pleasure of doing yourself to the pleasure of doing together was without doubt the key to a curious appropriation of new technologies. The positive experience proposed by our program “Drôles d’Oiseaux” is at the crossroads of “DIY” and “Fablabs”. It was thus taken on by the community of fans of “Du Côté de Chez Vous”, inspiring brand from Leroy Merlin, and by regular visitors of the Techshop…

The Drôles d'Oiseaux program allows allows you to make a complete collection of furniture yourself from A to Z : a writing desk, a chair, a closet, an armchair or even a small chest of drawers … All the plans, 3D files and assembly instructions can be downloaded for free on the website www.droles-doiseaux.fr

The constructive principle is simple. It combines sophistication made possible by 3D printing and the simplicity of standard parts available at Leroy Merlin stores. The final assembly is carried out with simple adhesive.

Each model of the Drôles d’Oiseaux collection is plural ; the pieces of furniture benefit from their structures to offer several functions. And although the structure of each piece of furniture is modelled in a definitive manner, its use remains open and free to interpret. Furthermore, the look of Drôles d’Oiseaux is customisable ad infinitum in conformity with the DIY spirit. The choice of materials, colours and their association leave latitude for each of us, according to our inspiration and taste!
